APHRODITES

A new series of works exploring the many faces of Aphrodite, from myth to icon, from goddess to Virgin. Cyprus carries her imprint through centuries of transformation, rupture, and devotion. Shaped by trauma, displacement, and a long history of being told who we are. Tracing our steps back to the Idol of Pomos, a uniquely Cypriot symbol of fertility; an embrace. From there, we weave the lineage: Astarte, Ishtar, Aphrodite, Panayia and all forms of the divine feminine imposed, adapted, or inherited. The bronze pigment isn’t always gold; rather, it’s copper and zinc, tied to our land and its legacy. Cyprus is not a young nation. She is ancient, layered, wounded, sacred. A young nation on an ancient island.

This is a mirror, a relic, a reclamation. An island. A body. A question.
